Being a Dad usually means heading off to work Monday through Friday. For some Dads, leaving for work means traveling and not being home during the week. This is the case for me from time to time. Being a US Army Dad is very rewarding but it also means that there are times that I have to leave for training or deployments. This has been the case for the last two weeks. That means that I have to make Dadurdays count so that I can positively impact my relationship with my children even if I have to miss the time at home during the week.
This Dadurday we planted a garden. We plowed and fertilized the soil, we marked out our rows for our crops then we sowed our seeds. It was great and the questions from the kids were priceless. How will the kernel of corn turn into a plant? What if the ants eat the seeds? If I eat one of the seeds, will a plant grow in my tummy? I didn’t know the answers but I was teaching them about planning and working for something that wouldn’t produce immediate results. Hopefully, I was teaching them that sometimes we have to wait for the good stuff. I want them to appreciate that hard work produces results. We got dirty and sweaty, but it was fun. Teaching and having fun…what could be better? Another great Dadurday in the books.
